Nature of the event
- The Gran Fondo Boyacá Mundial is a recreational event: most riders take part for the enjoyment and the challenge of finishing.
- The organisers obtain full road closures from the competent authority. Even so, riders must follow the highway code and any instruction issued by the organisation.
- Taking part is at your own risk and responsibility, which you accept during registration.
- Only vehicles authorised by the organisation, sponsors and the traffic authorities and National Police may travel within the convoy.
Who can take part
- Recreational riders on road or mountain bikes.
- Power-assisted (electric) bicycles are not allowed.
- Riders holding a Federation (elite) licence, those who have raced on that body’s calendar or in any regional league, and anyone sanctioned or suspended for doping may not take part.
- If this is discovered after the fact, the entry fee is not refunded and the rider is not eligible for the awards.
- Riders who, in the five (5) years before the event date, have held an Elite federation licence issued by the Colombian Cycling Federation or any other national cycling federation; or who have raced in events on the official calendar of the Colombian Cycling Federation or any other national cycling federation, or in competitions, trials or other competitive activities organised or endorsed by a departmental cycling league, are not eligible for the classification or the awards.
- Minors need parental or guardian authorisation via a notarised document. They do not form a category and are therefore not eligible for awards.
Insurance and cut-off time
- Every rider is covered by life and accident insurance for the duration of the event.
- The cut-off for completing the course with organisation support is eight hours from the start. Riders past that may board the broom wagon or continue at their own risk.
- On race day a call centre is available to locate the nearest mechanics, paramedics or ambulances. The numbers are printed on the route track in the kit.
About the kit
- You must show your ID document to collect your kit. If you authorise someone else, they must present an image or copy of your ID.
- Jersey size is chosen using the sizing chart attached to the entry form. By registering you confirm you have measured correctly: no exchanges once the kit is handed over.
- The kit includes a route track with distances, timing points, food and hydration stops and cut-off times between segments. A digital version arrives in the rider guide a few days before the event.
About the course
- There is a 143 km route (Gran Fondo) and a 100 km route (Medio Fondo). Should anything happen on the roads, the organisers may modify them to safeguard rider safety.
- There are five timed segments on the Gran Fondo and three on the Medio Fondo, judged by chip for split and overall results. One of them is a flat 6.2 km segment shared by both routes.
- The course runs under controlled closure, but riding on the right and following traffic rules is compulsory.
- There are two contraflow sections, marked with cones on the centre line and bunting on the side. Ride strictly in the right-hand lane.
- Take care on the marked descents, sharp bends and hazard crossings.
Disqualification
- Riders receiving help from cyclists not registered in the event will be disqualified.
- Riders holding on to any motor vehicle to gain an advantage will be excluded from the results.
- Any rider who gets into a support car, authorised or not, may not rejoin the race further along.
Compulsory kit
- All riders must wear the official jersey, number and wristband. That is what guarantees medical and logistical support along the course.
- Riders not wearing the official jersey on race day are excluded from the photo record, are not recognised as participants by the mechanical or medical crews, and are not eligible for a medal or the awards.
- On the welcome ride you may wear any jersey you like, including those from previous editions.
Road rules
- On shared roads, keep to the right-hand lane.
- Drivers must overtake cyclists leaving at least 1.50 m of clearance.
- Use hand signals for overtaking, junctions, potholes, speed bumps or animals on the road.
- Always follow instructions from organisation vehicles and traffic authorities.
Awards
- To receive an award and go up on the podium, winners must show their original national ID card or, for foreign riders, the identity document they registered with.
About registration
- You can ask for a refund of your entry until September 30, 2027, minus a $50,000 (COP) administrative fee. After that date the fee is not returned, because the organisers have already produced your kit and jersey, and the entry is not carried over to future events.
- Entries are strictly personal and non-transferable: they cannot be used by anyone else, nor can one rider be substituted for another.
- Your entry fee is treated as a donation to the Corporación Gran Fondo Boyacá Mundial, a registered non-profit.
- Riders who do not show up are sent their kit the week after the event, by national courier with cash on delivery, to the address given on the entry form.
- The organisers reserve the right to change the route, the date and the food and hydration points in cases of force majeure.
